What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from watching my allergies go berserk real-time to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 3, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a touching comedy, a horror staple, and The Rock. Let’s get started.
Father Figures (R)
Kyle (Owen Wilson) and Peter (Ed Helms) are brothers who have lived their entire lives believing their father was dead. However, when they realize their father is still alive, they go searching for him. In their searching, they also find out more about their mom than they realize. This film, which also stars J.K. Simmons, Katie Aselton, and Glenn Close, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This film was surprisingly sweet and endearing, although it didn’t start off that way. It’s a fun comedy and I recommend checking it out.
Insidious: The Last Key (PG-13)
In the latest edition in the Insidious franchise, Dr. Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) returns to her childhood home to face her demons. Accompanied by her longtime partners Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), they have to delve deeper into the Further to solve her greatest mystery and defeat her greatest fear. This film, which also stars Caitlin Gerard, Bruce Davison, and Kirk Acevedo, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. If you enjoy these, then great! If you’re like me and don’t do horror, then do like me and walk on by.
Ballers: The Complete Third Season
Dwayne Johnson returns as financial manager Spencer Strasmore in this HBO dramedy. Along with his partner Joe Krutel (Rob Corddry), they have to take the next step in making their clients happy; instead of just making promises, they have to actually deliver on them. This series, which also stars John David Washington, Donovan Carter, and Omar Miller, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. This show has been consistently interesting, so I’ll give it the lightest of recommendations.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.
