BluTuesday – August 18, 2015

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from actually enjoying stepping outside to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 18, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss short cops, funny people, and this generation’s horror opus. Ready to get started? Let’s get to it.

Hot Pursuit (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 8%

Reese Witherspoon plays Rose Cooper, a by-the-book cop who is completely unliked by everyone involved in her department due to a mishap with the mayor’s son. When she is tapped to protect Felipe Riva (Vincent Laresca) and his feisty wife Daniella (Sofia Vergara), of course things are gonna go wrong. And, hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Michael Mosley, Jim Gaffigan, and Richard T. Jones, is available in a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. If you like Reese WItherspoon or Sofia Vergara, then this is for you. If you like comedies that are only remotely funny, then this is for you. Otherwise, this isn’t for you.

I Am Chris Farley [Blu-ray]
Rotten Tomatoes score: 76%

This documentary takes an unflinching look at one of the most influential and hilarious comedians of the 90s. It takes a look at his start at  The Second City, his rise to prominence on Saturday Night Live, and his meteoric rise to film. It unabashedly also tells of his own personal demons, and how drug addiction destroyed him, an overdose ending his life at 33. This documentary, which features commentary by Adam Sandler, Bo Derrick, and David Spade – among other comedic luminaries, is available in both a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. Chris Farley redefined comedy in an era that saw a shift from the Seinfelds of the day to more raunchy and in your face comedy. This is my pick of the week, and I recommend it to everyone who loves film or TV.

I Am Chris Farley

Unfriended (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 59%

This horror movie, which unfolds on a series of computer screens, tells the story of a teenager and her friends as they are being stalked by an unseen figure who is out for revenge for releasing a shaming video that drove a bully to suicide. This film, which stars Shelly Hennig, Moses Jacob Storm, and Renee Olstead, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. There are no winners here, so…unless this is your thing, I’d pass on it.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
