BluTuesday – December 2, 2014

What’s good, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from chowing down on Thanksgiving leftovers (they’re still good!) to bring you the latest releases in home media for December 2, 2014. In this week’s episode, we discuss those damn dirty apes, Timothy Olyphant, and the next great Avatar. All ready to go? Let’s get down to brass tacks, then.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes [Blu-ray]

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 91%

Fresh from the sequel of the 2011 surprise hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes comes this inspired sequel. Taking place a full decade later, Caesar is leading a group of apes when they are threatened by a group of humans who managed to survive the virus that wiped most of humanity out. One of the humans wants to broker peace, but another wants an all-out war. With lives on both sides hanging in the balance, one misstep could wind up destroying them all. This movie – which stars Andy Serkis (will someone please give this man an Oscar?!), Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Toby Kebbell – is available in a two disc 3D Bluray/Bluray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Bluray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. I loved the 2011 movie, and I love this movie as well. It starts off slow, but when it comes down to it, the movie accelerates quickly and doesn’t stop until the very end. This movie is my pick of the week, and I couldn’t recommend it any higher.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Justified: Season 5

Season Five of this acclaimed series stars Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens as he confronts the Crowe family, a deadly family from Florida (as if there’s any other kind of family in Florida…just kidding. Sorta.) as they attempt to start a new crime enterprise. The B roll of the series features Boyd Crowder (Walter Goggins) trying to free his fiancee Ava (Joelle Carter) by partnering with the Dixie Mafia. This series is available in a three disc Bluray version and a three disc DVD version. This is a gritty show that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last frame. If you haven’t seen any of it, then what are you waiting for?! Get to it!

Justified: The Complete Fifth Season

Legend of Korra: Book Three – Change [Blu-ray]

Book 3 of the acclaimed series The Legend of Korra follows the eponymous heroine on her quest to master bending the element of Air, thus bringing her one step closer to becoming the Avatar of her era. Along the way, she runs into an anti-bender group known only as the “Equalists.” Thus, her new challenge begins. This series is available in both a two disc Bluray version and a two disc DVD version. The Legend of Korra is a beautiful series, as was the series before it. It is a lot of fun to watch and behold, and I can’t say anything more about it than has already been said by people more eloquent than I. Go watch this series.; you won’t regret it.
