BluTuesday – June 12, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from rehearsals for the next play I’m in to bring you the latest releases to home media for June 12, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a new love story, surviving against all odds, and riots and reclamations. Let’s get started.

Love, Simon (PG-13)
Metascore: 72

Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) is your average teenage boy with a huge secret: he’s closeted and is afraid of his secret getting out. However, when someone threatens to out him, he has to find out who the blackmailer is – as well as figure out who the secret admirer is he has fallen in love with. This film, which also stars Alexandra Shipp, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Jennifer Garner, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a very important movie for a sorely unrepresented audience, and I highly recommend it.

Tomb Raider (PG-13)
Metascore: 48

Alicia Vikander stars as Lara Croft, the free-spirited daughter of an eccentric adventurer who disappeared when she was a teen. She steadfastly refuses to believe her father’s truly gone, but when a mysterious puzzle comes into her possession, she sets forth on the adventure of a lifetime. This film, which also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Hannah John-Kamen, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. This is a pretty fun action flick based on the rebooted video game franchise, and it’s certainly worth a watch.

Orange Is the New Black: The Complete Fifth Season
Metascore: 67

After the shocking events of last season, the situation at Litchfield has devolved from a standoff to a full-blown riot. The inmates take advantage of a volatile situation, but when things start to take a turn for the worse, will life at Litchfield ever return to normal? This series, which stars Taylor Schilling, Danielle Brooks, and Dascha Polanco, is available in a three disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a four disc DVD version. Five years in, you know if you’re in or not. I pulled the ripcord in the first season, but your mileage will vary. If it’s for you, then enjoy.

That’s all I got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
