News Ticker

BluTuesday – June 30, 2015

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from planning for the 4th of July to bring you the latest releases to home media for June 30, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss Kevin Hart, a charming story of revenge, and an aging singer putting on one last show. Ready to go? Let’s go.

Get Hard (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 29%

When James (Will Ferrell), a millionaire hedge fund manager, is found guilty of fraud and sentenced to San Quentin (a likely story…), he turns to someone who he thinks can help: a man named Darnell (Kevin Hart). James believes that Darnell is a hardened criminal, but he’s actually a hard working small business owner. So, Darnell now has to put on a good show to get James ready for lockup. This film, which also stars T.I., Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I’m not a comedy fan, so I’ll freely admit that this isn’t my sort of movie. If you like it, have at it.

Last Knights (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 16%

Clive Owen plays a warrior that has fallen from grace and is forced to take on a sadistic ruler after his mentor (Morgan Freeman) is dishonored. This film, which also stars Aksel Hennie, Daniel Adegboyega, and Shohreh Aghdashloo, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I know the description on this is light, but that’s what they gave me. I don’t know how to take this; on one hand, it’s the age old tale of revenge, but on the other hand…it’s a bit exhausting to see the same tale ad nauseum. Who knows; this one might be good.

Danny Collins

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 77%

Danny Collins (Al Pacino) is an aging rocker who’s lived a life of drugs, booze, and women. One day, he receives a long-forgotten letter sent to him by John Lennon, and he decides to turn his life around. This film, which stars Christopher Plummer, Annette Bening, and Jennifer Garner, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Whereas the revenge story is a tale as old as time, the redemption story is as well. But, who doesn’t love a good redemption story? This movie is my pick of the week, as the performances are out of the park.
