BluTuesday – November 14, 2017

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from trying to figure out the space-time continuum to bring you the latest releases to home media for November 14, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss kickass women, horror origins, the Doctor, and the most ironic name in recent history. Let’s get to it.

Atomic Blonde (R)
Metascore: 63

Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is a top-level spy for MI6 during the late 80s. She’s ordered to Berlin the day before the Berlin Wall fell in order to take down a deadly espionage ring. She’s told to cooperate with station chief David Percival (James McAvoy), and they unleash their particular set of skills in an attempt to end a threat that could jeopardize the West’s intelligence operation. This film, which also stars John Goodman, Eddie Marsan, and Sofia Boutella, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. Charlize Theron kicks all sorts of ass, James McAvoy kicks a lot of ass himself, and John Goodman is at his John Goodman-est. This movie is a lot of fun, give it a watch.

Amityville: The Awakening (R)
Metascore: 42

Belle (Bella Thorne) moves her little sister Juliet (Mckenna Grace) and her comatose twin brother James (Cameron Monaghan) into a new hose with their mother Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) in order to save money for her brother’s healthcare. But, when strange and horrific things start to happen, Belle realizes they’ve moved into the infamous Amityville house. This film, which also stars Kurtwood Smith, Taylor Spreitler, and Jennifer Morrison, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. Well…it’s a horror movie, and y’all know my stance on horror movies. If it’s your thing, have at it.

Doctor Who: The Complete Tenth Series
Metascore: N/A

In the tenth series of the long running BBC show, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) has resigned himself to staying on earth in order to protect a secret, with his associate Nardole (Matt Lucas) keeping an eye on him. But, when he meets a young woman named Bill (Pearl Mackie), his adventurous spirit is reborn, and they set off on a journey through time and space. This series, which also stars Michelle Gomez, Mina Anwar, and David Suchet, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. This series is a mixed bag for me. It started off so great, but it made a curious set of decisions about halfway through, and…the less said about the finale, the better. All in all, it’s a decent addition to any Doctor Who fan’s collection.

Preacher: Season Two
Metascore: 76

Season two of this acclaimed AMC series follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass companion/ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they go on a road trip of discovery. Along the way, they find themselves thrust into a battle spanning Heaven, Hell, and all points inbetween. This series, which also stars Ian Colleti, Julie Ann Emery, and Anatol Yusef, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a four disc DVD version. This show is stupid fun, full of action and adventure, and I highly recommend it.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
