BluTuesday – November 28, 2017

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from more tech rehearsals to bring you the latest releases to home media for November 28, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss rednecks breaking the law, fast paced coffee drinking, and the origin story of a hip-hop icon. Let’s get to it.

Logan Lucky (PG-13)
Metascore: 78

Channing Tatum and Adam Driver play Jimmy and Clyde Logan, two brothers who are down on their luck. In an attempt to reverse their fortunes, they decide to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600. They enlist convicted safecracker Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) and his misfit family, and they have to stay one step ahead of FBI agent Sarah Grayson (Hilary Swank). This film, which also stars Katie Holmes, Brian Gleeson, and Riley Keough, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. Seeing Charming Potato and Adam Driver do comedy is one thing, but to see Daniel Craig do it is something completely different. That in and of itself is worth the price of admission.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Metascore: 75

Return to Stars Hollow and the Dragonfly café in this Netflix continuation of the popular WB/CW TV series. Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) is still running the Dragonfly café while her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) is gallivanting around the globe with her career. When Rory’s career takes an unexpected turn, she returns home and helps her mother and grandmother Emily (Kelly Bishop) mourn the loss of the family patriarch. This series, which also stars Scott Patterson, Keiko Agena, and Milo Ventimiglia, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. While this series never appealed to me, I know it had its fans. This is a love letter to those fans, and I recommend it to them.

The Defiant Ones
Metascore: 76

Featuring interviews with some of the greatest musicians of our time, this documentary series tells the story of how Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine met, joined forces, and created some of the most influential music the world has ever known. This documentary series, which features interviews with Bono, Ice Cube, and Snoop Dog, is available in a four disc Blu-ray/DVD version and a two disc DVD version. If you’re a music fan of any stripes, this is something you definitely need to check out. It’s worth your time.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
